Soul Calibur V Review
Written on March 13, 2012 at 4:33 pm, by Andrew Eidson
This game reminded me of Mortal Kombat 9. It was fun, but ultimately left me unimpressed. It brought back the spirit of the series, but it still lacked soul. The fighting was solid, the story was solid, and it felt right. But something made it feel ‘dated.’ Perhaps it was the fact that after you Read more...
Mario Kart 7
Written on January 25, 2012 at 6:19 pm, by Andrew Eidson
Mario Kart 7 is the latest in the series of Mario Kart, and provides crisp 3D graphics on the Nintendo 3DS system. Mario Kart seems to come in threes. Super Mario Kart, Mario Kart Advance, and Mario Kart 64, all ran along the same lines. I’m not sure where to fit Mario Kart: Double Dash, Read more...
Sonic Generations
Written on January 24, 2012 at 10:04 am, by Andrew Eidson
I’ve been a fan of Sonic since my childhood. The promises of a Sonic game that finally mixed old with the new in a successful way enthralled me. The story is of the nonsensical variety in which some evil creature is stealing all the color from the worlds. Somehow in all of this, new and Read more...
Are You OK? Yes! The King of Fighters XIII
Written on November 28, 2011 at 4:29 am, by Andrew Eidson
Those who know me, know I was a The King of Fighters XII apologist. Remember that one? It was completely terrible! It had so few characters, no story, awful online multiplayer, awkward character zooming, and a hefty price tag for a bare-bones game. I argued that it was still a good fighter, but overpriced for Read more...
Cute Anime Chicks and Space Ships: Otomedius Excellent
Written on November 14, 2011 at 3:08 am, by Andrew Eidson
Otomedius takes the world of Gradius and adds a cute anime girl feel to it. In the same vein of Parodius, it puts a new spin on a classic title. I picked up this game because I needed another shooter game. I was hungry for something I didn’t have to import, and wasn’t from Cave Read more...
Put Your Hands In The Hole: Child of Eden
Written on September 5, 2011 at 5:53 pm, by Andrew Eidson
Ever played Rez? Child of Eden is like that, but less wireframe and more beautiful. In fact, Child of Eden doesn’t seem to do a whole lot differently than Rez. Sure, it’s pretty, but it feels like a Genki Rockets music video. I think that’s on purpose though. The girl character is named Lumi, and Read more...
Get Hard For Catherine!
Written on August 2, 2011 at 2:27 am, by Andrew Eidson
Atlus’s new game Catherine is a very interesting type of game. It’s part puzzle, part mystery, part drunk text messaging. People who have played Shin Megami Tensei: Persona series should be familiar with how Catherine operates. No, there’s no demon-collecting, dungeons, friendship-o-meters, or any of that nonsense. Instead it goes back to that old style Read more...
Portable Royalty: The King of Fighters-i
Written on July 21, 2011 at 6:41 pm, by Andrew Eidson
King of Fighters-i is a miniature version potentially of what will be King of Fighters XIII. It uses a lot of the same characters, mechanics, and style. Similar in nature to how King of Fighters R1 and R1 had console counterparts. Mobile games that attempt to be like console or arcade games rarely hit the Read more...
Portable Cave Shooters: Bullet Hell In Your Pocket
Written on July 18, 2011 at 9:51 pm, by Andrew Eidson
Over the last few years, Cave has been remaking some of their bullet hell shooters and releasing them on the App Store for play on the iPhone, iPad, and newer iPod Touch devices. I was always curious how these would stack up against their console and arcade counterparts. The question that always crossed my mind Read more...
We’ve Gone Mad! Alice: Madness Returns
Written on July 15, 2011 at 5:22 pm, by Andrew Eidson
American McGee’s new game Alice: Madness Returns hasn’t been getting the attention it deserves. I’m here to set the record straight. You don’t see too many games that treat themselves like Alice treats itself. This game is fantasy, this game is bloody, this game is strange. Madness Returns is a welcome return to the kind Read more...
